Career Areas for which this Subject is Useful/ Essential
The subject of Classical Studiess is a cross-sectional study of some of our most influential early civilisations and, therefore, is a subject of great breadth in terms of the course content. It encourages pupils to engage analytically with many aspects of culture and society, developing these skills so that they can be applied in their daily lives.
As well as the intrinsic value of developing the mind the subject can be studied as part of an Arts degree as much of the course engages with the earliest works of art and literature from the Greco-Roman world. Therefore, it is particularly useful for those interested in pursuing studies in Literature, History, Art and Drama. For those wishing to deepen their study in the subject, there is a rich tradition of research in the field and students who are drawn to Archaeology, Academia or Education would profit from its study.
Other aspects of the course deal with the nature of power and politics and students are encouraged to sctutinise policies and motivations of notable leaders from antiquity. Therefore, those opting to study Law and Politics will also find it very applicable. Pupils considering a career in the Military will also find the study of Classics helpful for these reasons.
In general, because of the critical skills that studying Classics develops and how it pushes pupils to analyse the forces and motivations of a society, it can be a subject that also fosters success in Entrepreneurship, Business and Marketing.
