The Junior Rugby squad shook off their post cup blues to record an impressive 43-5 win over Casteknock J3's away from home. Tries from Jose Fominaya (2), Thady McKeever (2), Blai Escudo, Sam Lawrence and Andrew Pollock gave the junior boys a considerable confidence boost after last week's disappointment.
The Leps lost 34-14 v Castleknock U14 C's, despite leading 14-5 at half time, after tries from Cian Mullane and Ben Sigurvinsson (with conversions from James Mungavin and Anton Tapking. There were some good performances and a few of these Form II boys will be pushing for places in the JCT shortly.
The Ducks lost out twice to to arch-rivals Headfort this past week, firstly on a scoreline of 35 points to 17 ( with Tom Larke, Jack Hayes and Jurre Chukwueke scoring tries). A few days later Headfort added more misery and defeated the boys 45-5 (Jack Hayes once again scoring for the Ducks).
Our senior boys teams were also in action this past week and it was a mixed bag. Both the Senior 1st XV and 2nd XV took on near neighbours De la Salle Churchtown last Wednesday. These are always well contested, often niggly games but they were played in great spirit and some of the rugby on offer was great to see. The 1st XV played exceptionally well, in a really competitive game. Despite three excellent tries, from Max Hopkins, Sean Cooper and Ferdinand Kuehne (with conversions from Hector Wright and Henry Carroll), they couldn't stop DLSP from claiming a home win. Their three tries, all converted, were enough to take the victory 21-19.
Sadly, the 2nd XV also lost, 32-22 to the home side, but again the was much to be excited about. There were a number of fine performances across the park especially from some of the Form IV pupils. Good team tries were finished off by Julius Schaefer, Grigory Kryokov (who also added a conversion), Julius Reblin and the ever improving Henry Zu Rantzau and the 2nd XV can be proud of their efforts.
Yesterday, a Senior Development team took on a team from Kilkenny College (comprising of their 2nds and 3rds). It was a great game and it was clear that St. Columba's were eager to make up for recent disappointments. They played fluidly and scored four super tries, finished off by Douglas Boyd Crotty, Aifo Ebeleghe (2) and Sean Cooper with Henry Carroll slotting three conversions. The game ended 26-14 to the home side and it provides a nice confidence boost as they break for the December exodus.
